Charlene Headlines Concerts for Causes, Oct. 21, 2006

On Saturday, Oct 21, 2006, Charlene headlines at Concerts for Causes at St Luke’s UCC in Northeast Philadelphia.

She will be playing to benefit the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, which provides counseling to survivors of violence, and the families of murder victims, as well as violence prevention training in local schools. Prominent Philadelphians and former Philadelphians have been invited, including the present mayor of the city John Street and governor of the state and previous mayor Edward Rendell.

Two new songs by Charlene will debut at this show, one from her ongoing Odyssey Songs series, and the other a new love song. She’ll be alternating between the lovely Martin steel string she acquired in 2005 and her tried and true nylon string Sakurai, whose sweet round basses and perfectly balanced trebles support her intricate fingerstyle playing.

Opening for Charlene is Will See, an emerging Americana artist from the Philadelphia area, and member of the Concerts for Causes production team.

Admission to the 7pm show is by donation—invite your friends and think “generous “!

St Luke’s is located at 11080 Knights Road, Philadelphia PA 19154.

What listeners are saying about Of Armor and Old Lies: Odyssey Songs Vol. 1:

"i received your cd in the mail yesterday and have listened to it a few times. it's really, really wonderful.... the lyrics were engaging and witty and the songs were melodic and hummable. My favourites are "in my net", which i thought portrayed calypso in an endearing and dignified light, and the sly, percussive "sacrifice". "
— Chelsea Spear, filmmaker of "The Hidden", a short film based on Homer's Odyssey.

What musicians are saying about Odyssey Songs:

" Of Armor and Old Lies" with its epic theme, is a fitting entry into the broader musical arena for what promises to be one of the mammoth voices of the coming generation.""
—Dan Greenwood, musician, Cambridge MA

"I've really been enjoying this CD (it's currently sitting in my CD player, taking a rest after 2 or 3 playings). Wonderful stuff! The harmonies are brilliant. I'm already wanting Volume 2."
— John Bullitt

" Release Yourselfí is hands down, one of the best songs Iíve ever heard coming out of the acoustic music scene. I'd put it in my lifetime top five. It is so, so, so refreshingly original. Its poetry could stand on its own. The elaborate chord structures and rhythm changes blow your mind into a million pieces, but these complexities flow together with such grace, itís as if they grew organically from the ground all on their own."
— Jake Michaels, King Platypus
